Charles Wilson

CHARLES WILSON, MSSW, directs the California Evidence-Based Clearinghouse for Child Welfare, under contract with the California Department of Social Services. He is the Executive Director of the Chadwick Center for Children and Families at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego, where he oversees a large multi-service child and family maltreatment organization. The Chadwick Center provides prevention, intervention, medical assessment and trauma treatment services along with professional education and research. In addition, Mr. Wilson chairs the California State Prevention Advisory Committee and co-chairs the San Diego Child Protection Team and the Systems Integration Work Group for the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN). Mr. Wilson also is a member of the Board of Directors of the California Consortium of Multi-Disciplinary Interview Centers (MDICs).

Mr. Wilson was the former Executive Director of the National Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) in Huntsville, Alabama. There he oversaw the clinical and prevention programs, the Southern Regional CAC, and the national training services that include the National CAC Academy and the National Symposium on Child Sexual Abuse. He also acted as a consultant in support of the Madison County Multidisciplinary Investigative Team. Mr. Wilson served in a variety of roles in public child protection, from a front line worker in Florida and Tennessee in the 1970's, to the State Child Welfare Director in Tennessee.

He is past President of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC) and past Vice President of the National Association of Public Child Welfare Administrators (NAPCWA). Mr. Wilson is an APSAC Advisor, an Associate Editor of the journal Child Maltreatment, the past Vice President of the Alabama Network of CACs, and a past ex-officio board member for the National Children's Alliance. He co-chaired the APSAC guideline committees on investigative interviewing and on family preservation.

Mr. Wilson co-authored the book The Team Investigation of Child Sexual Abuse: The Uneasy Alliance and the publication, Closing the Quality Chasm in Child Abuse Treatment: Identifying and Disseminating Best Practices-The Findings of the Kauffman Best Practices Project on Helping Children Heal From Child Abuse (commonly known as the Kauffman Report). He is also the author or co-author of numerous publications, articles, and book chapters, as well.
