Brief Description:

Domestic Violence Enhanced Response Team (DVERT) has been rated by the CEBC in the area of Domestic Violence: Services for Women and Their Children. DVERT is a partnership between the Colorado Springs Police Department and community-based agencies. The program involves coordination of the criminal justice system with social services and community-based agencies., which These services and agencies include law enforcement, victim advocacy, prosecution, child protective services, and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).

The DVERT office is also shared with a satellite office of El Paso County Department of Human Service's Family Independence Program. The safety of domestic violence victims is primary, as opposed to a more traditional focus on arrest and prosecution of batterers. The program particularly focuses on cases where there is a high risk of lethality to the victim (including children or animals as victims). The program also includes providing training and support to communities seeking to create similar networks.
